61 Illegal Buildings on Sentiong Riverbank Demolished

The joint personnel of Satpol PP, Public Works Sub-agency, Transportation Sub-agency, Environmental Sub-agency of Central Jakarta together with Police and Army, Wednesday (7/29), controlled 61 illegal buildings along Sentiong River, Jalan Salemba Tengah, Paseban Urban Village, Senen.

To be completed in the next two days

Head of Paseban Urban Village, Citra Arum Purdiarini said the controlling of illegal buildings in the areas of RW 04, 05, 06 and 08 is to restore the function of the Sentiong Riverbanks.

Pejambon Riverbank Area Development Completed

"Before the demolition, we had already socialized and sent a warning letter to the building owner to dismantle it," she said.

Dozens of illegal buildings along the 1.2 kilometer riverbank include stalls, animal pens, security posts and residences.

"The demolition of illegal buildings along the banks of the Sentiong River is targeted to be completed in the next two days and will be followed by arrangement by several related agencies," she added.

After the illegal buildings have been cleared, Citra explained, the Central Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agency will continue the construction of sheet piles on the banks of the Sentiong River, which was not completed several years ago.

"City Parks and Forestries Sub-agency will also construct park at the area," she stated.
